Welcome to Race Mighty Memo

Hey Reader!

Welcome to Race Mighty Memo. We're glad you're here.

This is our little corner of the inbox for triathletes who want practical help, honest perspective, and a reminder that this sport is allowed to be fun.

The plan is simple: each issue, we’ll bring you one smart thing, one real thing, one useful link, and one fun thing from the world of Team Saunders Tri.

Let’s start with something we’d absolutely tell a friend before race week.

One Smart Thing

Do less in race week, not more.

One of the easiest mistakes triathletes make is trying to cram in confidence during the final few days before a race. Extra intervals. Extra miles. Extra panic. None of it helps.

Race week is not where fitness is built. It’s where freshness, confidence, and your peace of mind get protected.

If you’re feeling twitchy, keep reminding yourself: the hay is in the barn and your job now is to show up ready to use the fitness you already built.

One Real Thing

We’ve learned this the hard way: sometimes the best race-week move is backing off the noise.

Not every week goes to plan. Not every build is perfect. Not every lead-up feels smooth, calm, and “Instagram-ready.” We know this from experience.

Sometimes life happens and your confidence wavers. Sometimes you don't feel like what you envisioned or hoped how you would arrive at the start line.

That does not mean you are doomed. It just means you are human.

A lot of triathlon gets better when you stop applying pressure to yourself by asking, “How do I feel perfect?” and instead start asking, “How do I show up ready?”

One Useful Link

If race week messes with your brain a little, you are not alone.

We’ve got a video that walks through common race-week mistakes and how to avoid quietly sabotaging yourself before race day.

One Fun Thing

Orange Energy Check:

We've all been there.

At some point before every race, triathletes lay out all their gear and think, “This is either elite preparation or an absolutely unreasonable amount of stuff for one morning.”

Both are true.

Still, what a wonderful thing we get to do.

Celebrate the journey and enjoy the ride.

That’s it for our inaugural newsletter issue.

If this was useful, fun, or made you feel a little more normal, you’re in the right place.

We know this sport is a lot of fun because of the community. If you know a triathlon friend who’d enjoy this too, feel free to forward it their way. We're grateful for the support.

Thanks for reading,

Issue #4 - 05.19.26 Chattanooga, You Were A Lot...in a GREAT Way! Hey Reader! Chattanooga is officially in the books. And whew. This race always has personality, but this year asked a little extra from everyone. The swim was slower than expected for a lot of athletes, the heat was turned up, the sun was not shy and there was not much wind offering a break. If you crossed that finish line, you earned the medal. Actually, let’s amend that. You earned the medal and a badge of honor. This week,...

Issue #3 - 05.12.26 It's Race Week, Chattanooga! Hey Reader! IRONMAN 70.3 Chattanooga is almost here, which means there are probably a few athletes out there staring at a gear pile and wondering if triathlon is a sport or an elaborate packing test. Respectfully, it is both. This week, we’re talking about organization, nerves and why Chattanooga continues to be one of our favorite race experiences on the calendar. Because yes, it’s hot. Yes, it’s humid. Yes, there are hills. Yes, the road out...

Race Mighty Memo || Issue #2 - 05.05.26 Race Season is in Full Swing! Hey Reader! We're still buzzing from our time spectating and supporting at Ironman Texas a couple weeks ago. We love this time of year. Not only does springtime bring warmer weather and more outside training activities, it is a reminder that there's a full schedule of triathlon on the horizon. One of our favorite annual excursions is to Chattanooga, Tennessee. We fell in love with the city and the Ironman vibe there when we...
